Overview
LinkNotes is a browser extension that helps you manage notes, tags, reminders, and interaction history for your LinkedIn connections. Your privacy is important to us.
Data Storage
Free Tier (Default)
By default, all data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API. No data leaves your device.
Pro Tier (Optional Cloud Sync)
If you choose to upgrade to Pro and enable cloud sync, your connection data is synced to Firebase Firestore (hosted by Google Cloud). All sensitive data is end-to-end encrypted before leaving your device, meaning neither LinkNotes nor Google can read your notes, tags, reminders, or interaction logs.
What is encrypted before upload:
- Notes you write about connections
- Tags you assign
- Reminder text
- Interaction log notes
What is stored unencrypted (needed for sync functionality):
- Connection names, headlines, and profile image URLs
- Relationship strength ratings
- Dates (created, updated, reminder dates, interaction dates)
What Data Is Stored Locally
When you use LinkNotes, the following information is saved on your device:
- Connection names, headlines, and profile image URLs from LinkedIn profiles you choose to track
- Notes, tags, and relationship ratings you create
- Reminders and interaction logs you add
- LinkedIn profile URLs for tracked connections
Authentication
If you choose to create an account, LinkNotes uses Firebase Authentication (by Google) to manage sign-in. You can sign in with:
- Google Sign-In — uses Chrome's identity API to authenticate with your Google account
- Email and password — credentials are handled by Firebase Authentication
Your authentication credentials are managed entirely by Firebase and are never stored or accessed by LinkNotes directly.
Payments
Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe. When you upgrade:
- You are redirected to Stripe's hosted checkout page
- LinkNotes never sees or stores your payment card details
- Stripe shares only your subscription status (active/canceled) with our server to update your account tier
Data Sharing
LinkNotes does not:
- Use analytics or tracking services
- Share your data with third parties (beyond the services described above)
- Access your LinkedIn credentials or account
- Sell or monetize your data in any way
Data Control
- You can export your data at any time as a JSON file
- You can import previously exported data
- You can delete all local data from the extension's Settings panel
- If you have a Pro account, you can cancel your subscription and your cloud data will no longer sync
- Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data
Permissions
LinkNotes requests the following browser permissions:
- storage — Save your connection data locally

- webNavigation — Detect page navigation on LinkedIn for single-page app support
